Our Land

Lesvos

"Nowhere else in the world do the sun and the moon coexist so harmoniously, share their power so justly, as on this piece of land where once, who knows in what unlikely times, which god, in order to please himself, cut and blew away the same plane tree  leaf in the middle of the sea."

Odysseus Elytis

Lesvos is the third largest island of Greece, with rare beauty, rich history, many sights and archaeological monuments, rich flora and fauna, the petrified forest classified as a World Heritage Site and the vast olive groves with the famous olive oils that you must discover and live your own legend.

Lesvos is the island of poets, musicians, historians, philosophers and cultural intellectuals, with ancient personalities such as Sappho, Alcaeus, Pittacus Mytilineos, Theophrastus, Terpandros, but also 20th century moderns such as Theophilos, Stratis Myrivilis, Elias Venezis and the Nobel Prize-winning poet Odysseus Elytis.

Gera - Iera

In the southeastern part of the island the sea penetrates the land and creates a closed lagoon-like bay with an almost invisible mouth, surrounded by green mountains with pine trees and olive groves reflected in the blue waters of the bay. It is the GERA with its olive trees, with the bay of olive groves as they call it.

GERA or "IERA" or IERA ( IERO) as was the historical name during the Roman era of a seaside town in the area "Xalatses” near Perama, which was probably submerged in the 1st century AD due to erthquake activity, from which the area and its homonymous bay took its name. This historical information is supported by archaeological findings.

Elias Venezis believes that the ancient Godesses of the Aegean sleep there. There, in the heart of the vast Lesbian olive grove, are the five picturesque villages of Gera, facing the idyllic bay of olive groves and in order as we come from Mytilene, Paleokipos, Plakados, Papados, Skopelos, Mesagros and the sixth village, Perama, is the port of the five villages with the flat green land.

Paleokipos

It is the first village of Gera that the visitor meets coming from Mytilene. Its name means old garden and testifies to the beauty of the surrounding landscape. It is located in vast, dense olive groves with semi-mountainous and mountainous terrain up to where the wave breaks and is surrounded by orange groves and gardens with fruit trees. A characteristic element of the village is the church of Saint Ermolaos, a 18th century, three-aisled basilica church   with one of the most beautiful temples of its time.

In Paleokipos we meet the "Agricultural Olive Oil Cooperative of Paleokipou". It is a vertically integrated cooperative unit, fully modernized and dedicated to olive cultivation, olive oil production, storage - preservation and standardization - marketing of extra virgin olive oil IERA GOLD, for the benefit of its members and above all with respect to the consumer.
